Commands to Get Your Dog to sit without treats
It is important to note that before teaching any command or get into training with any dog on how to sit, one needs to provide a decent amount of exercise for the dog. This is important because you want to raise the energy level of the dog and not get it too bored to learn. A maximum of half an hour of walking or exercising is enough as you do not want to get the dog mentally and physically tired that it can’t process and implement given information. It is vital to get the dog relax after the exercise before passing information across.
Secondly, bonding with the dog is an important step during the training of dogs. Take like 15-20 minutes to bond with your dog before passing across any kind of commend as this helps the dog to assimilate and process quickly.
Using a simple item like the dog leash can be a great tool to get your dog to learn without any treat. It is however, important to put your dog on the leash when training it, never allow your dog to be off leash when teaching it to obey commands.
Thirdly, start by teaching your dog what you want him to learn. Once the information is passed to the dog, then it is time to reinforce it by practicing it. To teach commends to a dog, put the dog on leash. Proceed by saying what you want the dog to do. For example, you can tell the dog to “Sit”. If it does sit down, then fine, if it doesn’t sit down, just call the dog’s name and say “No”. Once you say “No” the dog will sit, when the dog sit, it is important you praise him by caressing his or her head to acknowledge that he has done the right thing.
The second way his to pass a command to a dog involves physically initiating the command. For example, if i say “Harvey sit”, i surly expect my dog to sit, however, if he doesn't, I will pull the leash a little bit up and push the bum down and then follow by caressing the head to acknowledge his obedience. With the leash on, one can teach his or her dog what they want it to do.
Commands to Get Your Dog to stay without treats
In order to teach our dog the stay command, it is important we start with the basics of the command. Like highlighted above, the command to get your dog sit is “SIT”. However to get your dog to stay, it is recommended to use the command “STAY”. Note that the command “sit” is the prerequisite for the command “stay”. This means that your dog should be able to implement the "sit" command before the stay command is taught.
